| Trac V., New York, NY I just went again, and they've really refined their fares. I got the house sandwich. The bread was crunchy and light, yet chewy, and the mix of meat and vegetables was delectably perfect. My bf got the chicken on sticky rice, and it was comfort food heaven: all the ingredients of a vietnamese new year's feast - chicken, sticky rice, thin slices of chinese sausage, scallion oil, and light sprinkling of jus - in a take-out box. It's as if the Baoguette couple spent the month between my visits in their laboratory working around the clock adjusting and readjusting all the ingredients to create street food alchemy. |

Todd a., Astoria, NY "this is tough... its different from my other fave bahn mi place in carroll gdns; latter is less fancy. baoguette has CATFISH and wonderful spicy catfish at that. also tried the curry beef. bread was nice and fresh, as were veggies, and the sauce was ZIPPY as i enjoy it. now, don't mistake for what you get off the streets in SaiGon... i've never had bahn mi like this. but, its good in its own way. the guy running the place was very helpful; my wife is VN, new to NYC and we're getting up to speed on where to find good VN grocery, esp fish sauce that's not got too much sugar. he helped piont me to his fave VN grocer, so extra karma pionts for that. the place is small; a couple people fill it up but when it gets warmer outside will be an option. i'll go back." |

Impressive (Posted by TheFrenchConnection on 03/10/2009) My wife and I grabbed lunch from Baoguette last week. Ordered the bbq chicken and curried corned beef sandwich as well as a special (chicken with Chinese sausage on sticky rice). Very impressed. Both sandwiches were very good...nice fresh bread and plenty of fillings. The corned beef was the big winner. I’ll definitely go back for that. Rice dish was simple but delicious. Agree with earlier posts that you should go “spicy” on the sandwiches. Overall the place has good food at reasonable prices (we had a huge lunch for $20). The place seems to get very busy around 11:30, so go earlier if you can. |
| best lunch spot (Posted by monica on 03/05/2009) The sandwiches are moist on the inside and the french bread keeps up its crispy texture. You can adjust spiciness to your taste though I would say their "spicy" default is not that spicy so everyone should go with it just for flavor of the hot oil. Can't beat $5 for the best Bao in the city. This will be a weekly lunch spot for me. |

Awesome! (Posted by Ban Mi Expert on 02/25/2009) Delicious sandwiches and great value. Will be back for sure. I have had a lot of ban mi sandwiches in my life and these rank up there with the best. |
| Best Banh Mi in NYC (Posted by Patrick on 01/31/2009) I've eaten banh mi at Nicky's Vietnamese, Chinatown as well as the Vietnamese towns in Philadelphia and Seattle, and Baoguette's banh mi are hands down the best. The $5 Baoguette and $7 Spicy Catfish banh mi are absolutely delicious. The bread is super fresh, warm, crusty, and the bread to filling ratio is perfect. The ingredients are very high quality, flavorful, fresh, and the whole sandwich is very finely made, not slapped together with inferior ingredients. Baoguette's much more convenient for me than Alphabet City, Brooklyn or Chinatown. The Vietnamese iced coffee is also fantastic -- love that condensed milk. Bottom line, best banh mi in NYC -- you can't go wrong here. |
